People spend so much time on deciding which furniture and wall colours to pick out for their bedrooms but ceilings get forgotten. Get more texture and contrast from your ceiling when planning out your decor around it.
Whether that’s cosy wooden ceilings or sleek beauty of gypsum ceilings, a ceiling speaks to taste. Here are some inspirations to get you started.
Wood Planks
Wood plank ceilings were an all-time favorite of decor and they are still. This ceiling style in the bedroom can make the room feel like it is in a cabin and that the texture is natural. Go for reclaimed barn wood or distress finishes to give the rustic look, or go for traditional white planks for the airy feel.
Paint your paneled ceiling white for a bright, airy feel and a stylish modern look. The bedroom ceiling has a simple crown molding and a paper mache pendant lighting to give a boudoir look.
Add a tray ceiling for a dramatic, custom ceiling in any bedroom with a raised section and then subtly recessed sections beneath for depth. A must-have bedroom look that can be further accentuated with moldings or cove lighting for more drama.
Flush
The ceiling in the bedroom might be one of those areas that gets neglected in design but there are a lot of possibilities for you to use different ideas. For everything from hiding annoying wires to giving the illusion of height, there are tons of ways that ceilings give you some innovative bedroom ideas that nobody does.
Tray ceilings are the classic, timeless style that works well with any room layout. It’s also well designed with its transparent layout which allows access to all the necessary wires and pipes while being neat and tidy.
If you want something a bit more modern, go for a POP ceiling with geometric shapes. Whether it is parallel lines or grids, chevrons, parallel lines, even other geometric patterns like paralleled lines or just triangles – geometric patterns give the designs a modern edge. It is a great way to pull other elements of design such as lamps, furniture and art into a single room feel.
Gypsum
This is where you spend the night and your space should be a place where you can relax and have a peaceful time. The ceiling will often be plain, but you can make the ceiling panels with some decorative patterns to bring your bedroom design together or to make a bold design statement which can do both things.
Gypsum ceilings give you limitless creative room to turn any room into an enviable masterpiece. Select from various designs – plain or fancy – depending on your preferences.
Go with a pattern with texture for visual interest or add nature with leaves and flowers for a soothing effect.
Coffered ceilings add class and texture to any bedroom and can even be used with recessed lights or chandeliers for even more character in your room. They are specially suited for bedrooms larger than 2 bedrooms.
Wallpaper
You never see the ceiling in the house but you can use it as a blank page for bedroom design. You can wallpaper a flat ceiling and make it stand out, from the soft neutrals to the bright and fun prints that really hit the mark!
: Make sure the ceiling is in good condition and doesn’t have any cracks or damage. Popcorn ceilings are not a good place to put wallpaper, because they easily split on the dry surface and will break the paper while it dries.
When you are ready to apply wallpaper, tracing a line halfway down the ceiling about half the width of your wallpaper. This will enable you to put the first strip (ideally, this one must be located centered on the ceiling) in place and to position subsequent strips accordingly. Once you have “booked” a length by folding and unfolding concertina style along its pencil edge, layer and smooth over top to seal. Another way to get rid of remaining bubbles is with a plastic smoother; make sure not to scratch it with its blade.
